Tesla has launched two separate safety recalls that touch different parts of its electric vehicle lineup. One targets a small batch of Cybertrucks where wheel components could fail under stress. The second covers a much larger group of models whose rearview cameras may briefly stop working because of a software glitch.
Cybertruck Recall Targets Specific Wheel Components
The first action involves 173 Cybertrucks built for model years 2024 through 2026 and equipped with 18-inch steel wheels. Tesla reported that cracks can develop in the rotor around the wheel stud hole. Continued driving on rough roads or during sharp turns can worsen those cracks until the stud separates from the hub. Vehicle controllability becomes uncertain once separation occurs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration noted that such a failure raises the chance of a crash. Tesla will install new front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts designed for greater durability. All work will be performed at no charge to owners.
Camera Software Issue Affects Hundreds of Thousands of Vehicles
A second recall covers more than 200,000 Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Model 3 vehicles. A software problem can cause the rearview camera image to disappear for a short time. Drivers lose a key visual aid when backing up or maneuvering in tight spaces. The loss of camera function increases the risk of collision. Tesla has assigned the internal code SB-26-00-016 to this campaign. The company plans to issue an over-the-air software update that restores normal camera operation. No physical parts are required for this fix.
Practical Steps for Affected Owners
Tesla will notify registered owners by mail with instructions on how to schedule service. Owners can also contact Tesla customer service directly at 1-877-798-3752 to confirm whether their vehicle is included. The manufacturer’s recall number for the Cybertruck campaign is SB-26-33-003. Repairs remain free regardless of mileage or ownership history. Dealers and service centers have been instructed to prioritize these campaigns. Tesla has stated it is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or fatalities connected to either issue.
What matters now
- 173 Cybertrucks need new rotors, hubs, and lug nuts.
- Over 200,000 other Teslas require a software update for the rear camera.
- Both fixes are provided at no cost to owners.
- Owners should check their VIN on Tesla’s recall site or contact customer service.
Tesla continues to monitor field data and regulatory feedback on these and other potential concerns. The company has a track record of addressing identified issues through targeted recalls and software improvements. Owners who experience related symptoms are encouraged to bring their vehicles in promptly for inspection.
