North Las Vegas, Nevada – A mother and father have pleaded guilty to charges connected to the 2018 death of their daughter, acknowledging that the child died after her father threw her against a wall in anger. Ricky Beasley, 34, and Lakeia Walker, 35, admitted their roles in the case, with authorities confirming that the girl’s body was hidden and has never been recovered. The couple had initially claimed the child was with relatives, but evidence eventually forced their confessions.
The Fatal Incident Unfolds
Beasley became enraged when his 3-year-old daughter, Zaela Walker, wet herself. According to statements from his own mother, he threw the child against a wall, producing a loud thud that the grandmother heard. She later saw Beasley holding the crying girl in his arms. Police reports indicate the toddler suffered fatal trauma from the impact.
Beasley then searched online for ways to stop seizures in young children, a detail uncovered during the investigation. The child did not survive the injuries, and the parents took immediate steps to conceal what had happened rather than seek medical help.
Months of Deception and the Turning Point
For months after Zaela disappeared, the parents maintained that she was safe with family members. Their story collapsed when Beasley’s mother came forward and described the violent episode she had witnessed. Investigators also learned that Beasley had taken the child from Walker for a week and demanded ransom before returning with her body.
Walker failed a lie detector test and provided details that pointed to the child’s death. She described a strong odor in the trunk of a vehicle while it was in Beasley’s possession, comparing it to rotten meat. Court documents later revealed that the couple worked together to clean the trunk using a vacuum and lemon-scented ammonia in an attempt to remove the smell.
Confessions and Court Outcomes
Both parents ultimately accepted responsibility. Beasley pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, while Walker admitted to being an accessory to the crime. Prosecutors noted that Walker had helped dispose of evidence after the fact.
Beasley faces a prison sentence of 10 to 25 years with the possibility of parole. Walker is expected to receive a term of one to five years. Sentencing for both is scheduled for July 23. A detective testified before a grand jury that Walker had been recorded on jail calls telling Beasley, “You always say no body, no crime.”
The Unresolved Question of the Remains
Despite the detailed confessions, authorities have never located Zaela’s body. The parents’ actions ensured that the child was hidden in a way that left no trace for investigators to follow. This absence continues to weigh on the case even after the guilty pleas.
The outcome brings a measure of legal accountability, yet it leaves the community without the closure that comes from recovering the child’s remains. The case stands as a stark reminder of how quickly a moment of rage can destroy a family and how difficult it can be to uncover the full truth when evidence is deliberately destroyed.
