Fort Smith – Barbara L. Westmoreland, a 75-year-old fixture in the local community, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, leaving behind memories of steadfast service and spirited living. Born on August 4, 1950, she built a legacy through years of work in law enforcement and healthcare, while cherishing time with family and newfound passions. Her departure prompts reflection on a woman who balanced duty with delight, touching lives across generations in western Arkansas.

A Career Rooted in Community Service

Later, she transitioned to Sparks Hospital, first working in the emergency room amid high-stakes environments, then as an operator until her retirement. Those positions highlighted her commitment to public welfare, roles that required both toughness and compassion in equal measure. Colleagues and those she served likely recall her steady presence during challenging times.

Family formed the heart of Westmoreland’s world, with survivors gathering to honor her memory. She is survived by her husband, Robert Westmoreland, and children including daughters Bridgett Wolfrum and Paula McGrew, married to Loran, as well as son David Williams, with his wife Jill.

Grandchildren number six: Jonna Childers, Mikia Childers, Robert Elliott, Ryan Elliott, Kayla Releford, and Bailey Williams. A brother, Steven Burdick, also remains, alongside numerous great-grandchildren who cherished her deeply. Late-Life Romance and a Passion for Dance

In her later years, Westmoreland discovered profound happiness through dance and romance. Known for her skill on the dance floor, she embraced the activity with enthusiasm that brightened social gatherings.

She met Robert Westmoreland later in life, sparking a swift courtship that led to marriage and shared adventures. The couple enjoyed multiple cruises, forging a partnership filled with travel and companionship.
