Chicago – Nearly three years after a woman was killed in a shooting on Lake Shore Drive, Cook County Crime Stoppers has identified a suspect and announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. The group made the announcement this week, naming Edgar Silva, also known by the aliases “Fat Boy” and “Lil Debo,” as the man wanted in the July 30, 2023, attack near McCormick Place. Police have not detailed how investigators connected Silva to the case, but the reward is intended to generate new leads in a shooting that left one person dead and another wounded.

The Shooting Unfolds on Lake Shore Drive

According to police accounts released after the incident, the violence began around 8:08 p.m. when a 2015 Nissan sedan cut off a Volkswagen heading north on Lake Shore Drive at 2701 South. One of the Volkswagen occupants honked at the other driver. In response, the Nissan pulled alongside the Volkswagen and gunfire erupted.

Thirty-seven-year-old Nancy Padilla, a passenger in the Volkswagen, was struck in the neck and later died from her injuries. The 26-year-old man driving the Volkswagen suffered a graze wound to his back but declined medical treatment at the scene. The shooter fled without being immediately identified.

Years Later, a Name and a Reward Emerge

The case remained unsolved for nearly three years until Crime Stoppers publicly identified Silva as the suspect. The organization did not release additional details about the investigation or any evidence that led to the identification. The reward announcement marks a renewed push to close the file on a shooting that occurred in a busy stretch of the city near major convention facilities.

Authorities have described the attack as a road-rage incident that escalated quickly after a simple honk. No other vehicles or bystanders were reported injured, and the motive beyond the immediate confrontation has not been publicly clarified.

How Tips Can Lead to an Arrest

Crime Stoppers emphasized that anyone with information can contact the group anonymously. Tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-535-7867 or by visiting CPDTIP.com. Callers receive a confidential code number rather than providing their names, and that code is used to claim the reward if the information results in an arrest or indictment.

The process is designed to protect tipsters while encouraging people who may have seen or heard something in the days after the shooting to come forward now that a specific name has been released. Officials have not indicated whether Silva is believed to be in the Chicago area or elsewhere.

Why the Case Still Matters

Shootings along Lake Shore Drive draw particular attention because of the roadway’s high visibility and heavy traffic. This incident occurred in the evening hours on a stretch frequently used by residents and visitors alike. The delay in naming a suspect highlights how some cases require sustained investigative work and public assistance to reach a resolution.

With the reward now in place, investigators are hoping fresh information will surface. The announcement serves as a reminder that even older cases can see movement when new details become available to the public.
